He chairs the Clos Archaeological Foundation and the Egyptian Museum of Barcelona, the largest private collection of Egyptian art in Europe open to the public, and has been funding archaeological excavations in Egypt for over twenty years.
Hotel Astoria houses two great treasures inside: a collection of posters from the early 20th century and a museum room dedicated to the Catalan artist Ricard Opisso.
The Museum Opisso room displays over four hundred works by illustrator Ricard Opisso (1880–1966). The exhibition traces the life of this prominent Catalan artist of the first half of the 20th century. From his beginnings as Gaudí's apprentice and a regular visitor to the artists' and bohemians' tavern Els Quatre Gats in Barcelona, to his encounters with Picasso. It also shows his Paris period, where he could freely express his more suggestive side and publish in French humorous magazines; as well as his evolution after the Civil War, when he abandoned socially critical drawing to focus on a kinder expression adapted to his new clientele.
Posters by Modernist and Art Nouveau artists with advertising themes decorate the walls of the restaurant and other hotel spaces. In addition, posters that advertised popular festivals and major Barcelona events, such as the 1929 International Exposition, are on display.
